Borland Database Engine
Deprecated shared database runtime used by old Borland applications for Paradox, dBASE and other data sources.
About Borland Database Engine
Borland Database Engine (BDE) is a shared data-access layer used by old Delphi, C++Builder and third-party applications. It supports legacy formats such as Paradox and dBASE and stores system-wide configuration in the Windows registry.
Lifecycle
Embarcadero marks BDE deprecated: it will not be enhanced, has no Unicode support and should not be selected for new development. The recommended migration path is a current data-access technology such as FireDAC.
Deployment risk
BDE is not a generic database editor. Embarcadero warns that incorrect installation can break other applications and that redistribution has specific rights and restrictions. The scan-blocked iowin EXE remains unavailable; use the licensed application installer or Embarcadero customer resources.
Features
- universal data access;
- free to download and use;
- compatibility with Windows;
- comes with a set of additional utilities and sample applications;
- user-friendly interface.
