Rainmeter is an open-source program for Windows that allows you to install various on-screen widgets. They can display the information about the central processor load, RAM usage, the amount of free space left on hard drives and much more. What is more, the app gives you the ability to customize the appearance of windows and the overall color scheme.

Widgets

After installation, you need to select the widgets that will be placed on your desktop. By default, the software provides four skin options. However, regardless of the choice, they all show the same data such as the date, time, day of the week, and CPU and GPU usage information.

If you want to add additional widgets, you can visit the developer’s websites and download new projects. It is worth noting that all of the creations are made by the community. The catalog contains visualizers, volumer controls, players, search panels and more. Alternatively, you may use widgets that are based on Yahoo Widget Engine like ActiveScan.

Customization

When it comes to changing the appearance, the application enables you to choose a window theme. It is possible to select the background color and adjust the level of transparency. The function of changing the size and position of windows is also available.

Please note, all customization steps are done by editing the configuration file. You can also create multiple profiles. Additionally, the program allows you to select the monitor on which the widget will be displayed.
