Unlike other desktop software for Web streaming services, BBC iPlayer functions more as a download manager than as a media player. After you install the application, you cannot really browse for content in it. You need to go to the official website to add an item to the transfer queue. Once this is done, you are able to watch desired movies or TV shows.

Unfortunately, the program enables you to download files only if you are in the UK. However, there is an option to use virtual private network clients like Touch VPN to bypass these restrictions. It is also necessary to mention that it requires a valid TV license.

Pros and cons

All items appear in the download section of the application along with a brief synopsis and some additional information available upon requests. Please note, it is not possible to sample the videos until the transfer is complete. Downloads can be paused and resumed at a later date. The stream quality is average and there are not many options which you are able to tweak to improve the feed.
