relion is a Windows program that lets users import and analyze scientific images acquired with various models of cryo electron microscopes. It is possible to automatically estimate the local resolution. Please note that relion requires manual compilation from the source code.

Image processing

After starting the program you are prompted to import the picture. Instruments for 3D classification of identified particles are provided. They can be sorted based on the shape and size. Moreover, it is possible to perform 3D refinement operations to analyze the structure of every element.

Advanced functions

Like in MicroManager, users can estimate the local resolution of the image. This feature is intended for comparing different parts of the structure. Additionally, there is an option to polish individual particles to improve their quality. All digital noise and artifacts are automatically removed in the process.

Optimization

This tab contains sliders for adjusting the number of classes and iterations. You are able to configure the mask diameter and enable subsets for initial updates. The resolution limit is customizable as well.
