Cab File Maker is a Windows application for building CAB files. These packages include digital certificates used for checking the integrity of the included items.

What is a CAB archive

The program helps create new cabinet files. This archive format was developed by Microsoft and supports lossless data compression as well as signing the contents with a digital certificate.

CAB packages are natively used for Windows Installer, Setup API and other services. Distribution files for the third-party programs are sometimes compressed in this format as well. Moreover, CAB items were popular in the obsolete Windows CE mobile devices.

Any popular archival tool such as WinZip or jZip can extract the contents from this kind of package. However, to build new CAB files it is necessary to use this app.

How it works

The main interface is straightforward and simple. You can add items to the project as well as delete them. The Clear button removes all objects from the package. It is possible to specify the destination directory for the archive. Additionally, you are able to enter the name of the resulting file. Clicking the Start button will begin the compression process.

The utility can create DDF items that are necessary for including multiple items into the CAB package.
