With the help of this specialized program you can run realistic simulations of blood flow and pressure in patient specific models of arteries and veins.
SimVascular
SimVascular is a Windows utility that provides a complete pipeline for cardiovascular modeling and simulation. It can be used for research, education or clinical applications like planning and evaluating surgical interventions. Moreover, medical professionals can study the effects of various diseases.
Data import
Like Philips DICOM Viewer, the software allows users to open several types of medical images such as CT, MRI and ultrasound. Imported pictures can be then segmented into separate regions of interest with the help of included interactive tools or automatic algorithms. It is possible to create 3D models of vascular anatomy based on the source information.
You can apply different types of boundary conditions to the vascular models such as pressure, flow, resistance, impedance or displacement. They can be derived from physiological data or configured manually.
Analysis
SimVascular lets users solve the governing equations of blood flow and pressure. Both finite element and finite volume methods are available. The module is based on the open source SVFSI library that is intended for handling large deformations and nonlinear material properties.
There are flexible instruments for visualizing the simulation results. You can plot graphs and create animations.
