Render96 is a Windows fan made project that aims to customize the gameplay experience in the emulated version of Super Mario 64. It offers users modern and realistic versions of the original visual assets. New features like dynamic lighting, shadows and reflections are available as well.

How it works

This program is not a standalone game, but rather a modification that requires a ROM of the original Super Mario 64 to run. It is compatible with several popular emulators such as Project64, Mupen64Plus and RetroArch. There is support for several editions of the original game, including NTSC U, PAL and Shindou.

Render96 is an ongoing project that is constantly updated to include new models, textures and bug fixes.

Included components

The main element of Render96 is the model pack with over 200 new 3D versions of Mario, enemies, objects and environments. It also includes optional modules like HD fonts, HUD icons and custom music.

Another important component is the patch for enabling advanced graphical features such as per pixel lighting, normal mapping and specular highlights. Finally, there is a shader pack with new graphics for the water, lava, metal, glass and other materials.
