RealTerm is a Windows utility for engineers that lets users directly interact with devices through different computer ports and protocols.

Main functions

Terminal panel with the data stream from the controller is located at the top of the main window. There are several tabs under this section for interacting with the hardware you are working on.

Display tab offers users a selection of formats for presenting the incoming data such as ASCII, Hex, Binary, Float4, CSV and many other options. Every variant can be further configured to better accommodate the controller you are working on. To convert number and text values into different formats manually, users can download Texter.

You can change the connection settings in the Port tab. There are different options for data bits provided. Device status is displayed here as well to help you easily detect any errors.

To save the information outputted by the connected device in the text file, users can utilize the Capture feature. Its settings include adding timestamps to the stream of values and ending the recording after a certain period of time.

Sending commands to the controller

Along with receiving signals, it is possible to transmit the data to the device as well. That operation is performed in the Send section of the interface. There are options for automatically adding parameters to the strings of commands. Moreover, you can set the delays and the number of repeats for sending the data. Numbers and ASCII characters can be used.
