PkgView is a straightforward Windows program that enables users to view and analyze files in the PKG format.

PlayStation compatibility

PlayStation devices rely on PKG files for component installation purposes. They are commonly encrypted and do not open on conventional computers. However, they work on the consoles for which they were designed.

Thanks to this software, you can read PKG files and perform thorough analysis of their contents. Afterwards, you are able to simply transfer the file to the game console through your home network via USB connection to install the downloaded game, movie or demo. If you do not own a Playstation console, you may use various emulators like ePSXe.

Microsoft App-V

Additionally, PkgView is used to view the file and registry changes that a user makes when running virtual applications in App-V. The PKG files have traditionally been a bit of a black box since the Microsoft program does not provide a way to look at what changed. If you somehow break the app, this means all you can do is reset the package by removing all of their personalizations. With this utility you can discover the source of the problem.

Operation

Users can select the PKG file they are interested in and click on the Analyze button. The display on the left will show an information tab with GUIDs, versions, dates and sizes of items. It is also possible to view an overlay of registry changes.
