OpenToonz is an open source program for Windows which allows you to draw cartoons and create complex animations. It provides a considerable amount of instruments for editing scenes and creating unique characters. In addition, the application supports the TWAIN format. This means you are able to upload scanned images.

Drawing

After launching the utility, you will be prompted to create a new project. Next, a drawing toolbar will appear on the screen. Using it, you can add geometric shapes, straight and curved lines. It is also possible to adjust the parameters of the scene, including the frame rate and the number of colors.

Animation

The program enables you to modify your images with special effects such as smoothing and distortion. It is worth mentioning that you are able to work with multiple layers. In contrast to Pivot Stickfigure Animator, you can create transitions between frames, as well as write and implement scripts to automate similar actions. There are several ready-made processing scenarios available.

After you have finished working on your project, you have the ability to preview it. Then, you can save it as a picture or video. For this purpose, the application is equipped with an in-built converter.
