This free software for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 offers users compression functions from Windows Vista to speed-up download of updates for the system.
Microsoft Compression Client Pack
Microsoft Compression Client Pack helps you to download Windows XP updates faster thanks to the compression function from Windows Vista.
Installing
This utility contains the Msdelta.dll file. The library exports functionality to create and apply binary deltas which are used to efficiently download system updates in Windows Vista. It is achieved by executing Microsoft Point-to-Point Compression.
The technology can be applied to other differential reduction in volume scenarios as well. Compressing files is also possible with tools like WinZip.
About MPPC
Microsoft Point-to-Point Compression is a data compression software based on an implementation of advanced algorithms with a sliding window buffer. Users can achieve higher compression ratios with this method. The process is completed faster by keeping a much larger buffer to work on at any one time and processing a given amount of data quickly. The end result is 8:1 compression ratio compared to a maximum of 4:1 in previous implementations.
Please note that this software is discontinued and no longer supported. Using older versions of Windows can lead to a security threat for your system.
