This simple software solution allows users to generate electronic books from local files. Additionally, it is possible to convert pictures to GIF format.
KindleGen
KindleGen is a straightforward program for Windows that gives you the ability to create personalized ebooks. Please note that it does not come with a graphical interface, and thus can only be deployed only via command-line.
Supported formats
The application is capable of handling a considerable number of formats for input documents, including EPUB, HTML and OPF. It is also possible to use directories and ZIP archives as source, but this is limited to the files with XMDF and FB2 extensions.
With the help of this utility, you can create ebooks with standard DOC or Kindle huffdic compression. However, you may also leave them uncompressed if necessary. If you want to get additional feedback during the conversion process, you need to add the verbose parameter to the string of commands.
Embedded content
Another interesting feature of this tool is the possibility to have all the images in the book converted to GIF format. This saves space and helps you keep the overall size of the ebook as low as possible. You also have the option to display messages in other languages via the localization function. In order to open and read the resulting ebook, you may use different programs, such as Kindle for PC or Cool Reader.
