GerbMagic is a special program for Windows that allows you to work with a viewing assistant for Gerber RS-274x and Protel ASCII PCB content. With the help of this utility, you are able to convert the materials between the two formats or export their data to PostScript, BMP, PDF, TIFF and RID. It is recommended to avoid possible iterations to image parameters with the settler module.

GerbMagic versus virtual printers

Virtual printer drivers like CutePDF or PrimoPDF have varied resolutions and are sometimes slow and inaccurate. This means if you have a standard-sized Gerber file, producing Postscript or PDF files may not lead to the best possible results. Thus it will be acceptable only in cases when you do not require high accuracy.

However, true vector conversion on which GerbMagic relies on, is not resolution dependent. It produces an exact copy of the original image in a different vector language. The resulting files are also much smaller than what a virtual printer driver generates.

Functionality

Thanks to this tool, you have the ability to group multiple Gerber and Protel files into a single page. What is more, you can move, rotate, mirror and toggle polarity for each image. The new page may be saved in PDF or PostScript format, remaining as a vector picture, or rasterized into TIFF, BMP or RID format. The latter item type is simpler than the two aforementioned ones, but with a higher compression ratio.
