Xray Ultimate is a useful modification for Minecraft that gives you the ability to simplify the search for resources. Basically, it makes all textures translucent except for ores and mob spawners. This means you can always know in which direction to dig to find what you want, while steering clear of aggressive creatures.

Setup

First of all, you need to install the OptiFine mod to ensure that the changes to the textures are applied correctly. The next step is to download the package and leave it archived. Now you can launch Minecraft, go to the Settings, and in the Resource Packs section press the Open Resource Pack Folder button.

This will open the corresponding folder, where you have to place the archive. After copying, the texture pack will appear in the list. It is possible to start a new game or load an existing one, since the changes will be applied to all saves.
