WordNet is a Windows program that lets you find synonyms for any English word. All nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs are grouped into sets by context.

Main purpose

This software resembles a standard thesaurus. However, WordNet interlinks not just simple word forms but recognizes specific meaning of every item. This way you can find synonyms that differ semantically from the original but have similar connotations.

It is worth noting that you cannot process large texts with this app. There are tools like WordFlood for quickly finding multiple synonyms for every word in a sentence.

Graphical user interface

It is possible to interact with this utility exclusively through the command line. Alternatively, there is a GUI for more convenient search. Users are able to look up any word and find the synonyms for it. There are separate buttons for displaying only verbs, nouns or adjectives. All keywords are highlighted in red.

Every entry contains a detailed dictionary description. Moreover, there are sample phrases and sentences that demonstrate how the word is usually implemented.

The fonts are customizable. Users can select the Courier, Helvetica or Times typeface. The letter size is adjustable as well.

This lexical database is maintained by the developer and regularly updated to include modern words and phrases.
