This app was developed by the USDA to help users simulate various greenhouse scenarios as well as estimate future energy consumption and plant growth rate.
Virtual Grower
Virtual Grower is a useful Windows tool for greenhouse farmers, researchers, educators and students. It allows you to learn more about plant management and optimize the production process.
Overview
The software is based on mathematical models that describe the biological interactions in a greenhouse environment. Users can input multiple initial parameters such as physical dimensions of the structure, glazing materials, heating and cooling systems, lighting, irrigation and crop types.
It is possible to automatically calculate the energy balance, temperature, carbon dioxide concentration, light intensity and humidity inside the greenhouse. Moreover, you are able to predict the growth rate, yield and quality of the crops. Potential risks of pest infestations in a specific location can be displayed as well.
Other programs for farmers such as CROPWAT are available for download.
Reports
There are instruments for creating and comparing different scenarios. Users can view detailed graphs and spreadsheets to analyze the results. Additionally, an option to access weather data from nearby climate stations by entering a ZIP code is available.
