This tool lets professional audio engineers working with surround sound precisely measure output levels. There are six independent meters for each channel.
Surround Meter
Surround Meter is a Windows application for monitoring and managing 5.1 surround sound mixes with a high degree of accuracy. You can visualize spatial audio distribution to get valuable insights into phase coherence and potential imbalances across all frequencies. Please note that the free demo version of Surround Meter has limited capabilities.
Supported standards
Users are able to display ballistics for prevalent options like DIN 45406, Nordic N9, BBC PPM and EBU PPM. Several types of K Systems by Bob Katz are available as well. This versatility is helpful for streamlining different workflows and meeting strict broadcast requirements.
There are other programs for adjusting surround sound characteristics such as Dolby Advanced Audio.
Audio configuration
Each channel has a dedicated level meter for individual monitoring and quicky fine tuning. Moreover, both the root mean square and peak levels are displayed. You can make informed decisions about overall loudness and transient control, which is crucial for preventing clipping and maintaining high sound fidelity. There is an option to downmix all channels to mono for wider compatibility as well.
It is possible to assess the phase relationship between separate channels. Users are able to identify potential wave cancellation issues, ensuring a cohesive and immersive surround experience.
