SpinRite is a Windows utility for analyzing hard drives and fixing corrupted sections. Users can automatically move files from damaged areas to prevent further problems.

Main purpose

This application is intended for servicing old IDE and SCSI hard drives. It supports storage devices with the ST412/506 interface. Moreover, you are able to restore information from floppy disks that use the modified frequency modulation technology for data encoding.

Various pattern checks for detecting bad or weak sectors are included. Users can perform stress tests to evaluate overall drive condition.

Please note that SpinRite cannot repair physical damage. The information from badly corrupted areas is not recoverable. It is strongly recommended to regularly back up all important information with the help of Dell Backup and Recovery Manager or another similar app.

Low-level formatting

This operation restores the drive to factory condition by filling all sectors with zeros and rewriting the file table system. It can help you resolve most thermal alignment errors, controller glitches and power issues. It is worth mentioning that all personal data is irrevocably erased in the process.
