SkyGlobe
SkyGlobe is a Windows tool for exploring the universe on the desktop computer. It provides a 3D map of the galaxy with detailed information about each celestial body. Moreover, users are able to travel forward or backward in time to see the changes in the night sky.
Navigation
After starting the program you can use the mouse cursor to move around the celestial map. It is possible to zoom in and out of the image as well. There are keyboard shortcuts for displaying guidelines and constellation outlines. This functionality is helpful for easier navigation across the galaxy.
Please note that SkyGlobe is obsolete and no longer supported by the developer. It cannot be launched in a modern operating system. There are other utilities for astronomers like AutoStakkert.
Advanced capabilities
Users can quickly jump to any point in time to observe various astronomical events such as eclipses and meteor showers. Additionally, there is a powerful search module for locating objects in the database.
Educational tools like an encyclopedia of astronomy terms and a constellation guide are provided. Students are able to learn historical facts about all famous stars and galaxies as well as perform complex calculations to predict future planet movements.
