Skanect is a Windows utility for scanning rooms, people and various 3D objects. There is support for several models of 3D cameras such as Structure Sensor. The program is oriented toward both beginners and professional users.

Operation parameters

After starting the application you can begin a new scan by specifying the scene type. Available options include body, object, room and half room. The next step is to adjust the size of the bounding box. The maximum volume is 12x12x12 meters.

Users are able to select the correct aspect ratio and change the default output directory. Moreover, it is possible to load a previously saved configuration file when performing similar operations.

Model processing

You can capture the 3D mesh in the Record tab. There is a slider for tuning the scan delay. The Reconstruct section provides instruments for smoothing rough edges and rebuilding the object in higher resolution.

Advanced geometry, mesh and color properties can be customized in the Process tab. It is easy to simplify the model, fill all holes and make the object watertight. Users are able to colorize individual textures as well.

Resulting 3D scans can be imported in Artec Studio for further modifications.
