Real Alternative is a Windows software developed as a light-weight alternative to RealPlayer. It contains all codecs required for opening Real Media files. Additionally, there are web browser plugins for Firefox, Opera and Chrome that let users stream online content.

Installation

You can select necessary components during the setup process. It is possible to integrate only codecs and plugins. This way you are able to open Real Media clips in any DirectShow enabled video player.

There is an option to install Media Player Classic. It has support for RealVideo files and a wide variety of other common formats. However, this app is not able to stream online content. Users can utilize VLC Media Player for this purpose.

It is important to mention that provided codecs are not fully compatible with SMI and SMIL files. Only the first part of such clips can be played.

Browser plugins

Instruments for watching video content on webpages are installed alongside the main program. Supported apps include Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera. It is necessary to close all browsers before the plugin integration.
