Quixel Mixer is a Windows utility for designing the textures that can be applied to the 3D objects. It is helpful for video game development.

Installation and registration

You can begin setting up the program by running the included executable file. It is possible to choose which sample packs to install as well as specify the destination folders for the content. Please note that several gigabytes of data will be downloaded during the setup process.

The utility can be used for free with Unreal Engine made by Epic Studios. A large library of visual assets is available. It is necessary to enter the Epic Store credentials to access the main interface. Several subscription plans for commercial use are provided as well.

Creating textures

Users are able to quickly begin the work by adding standard shapes such as cubes, spheres and cylinders to the project. Moreover, there are thousands of models and shapes that are available in the Online tab. To create complex 3D objects from scratch users can utilize Blender.

Applying new surface layers and materials is possible. Fabric, marble, paper, plastic, rock, wood and many other textures are provided. A wide variety of filters and visual effects to personalize the samples is available. You can preview the results before rendering.

Lighting conditions can be modified to simulate an overcast day, desert sun, fluorescent or studio lights, etc. Users are able to display the object in both 2D and 3D views.
