PunkBuster is a Windows app that lets you monitor the behavior of players in online competitive games to detect cheating. There is support for several popular titles.

Installation

This software is integrated automatically when you set up a compatible game. If the PunkBuster packages are missing or corrupted, it is possible to reinstall the program separately by running the included executable file. Additionally, there is an update utility for downloading and applying new versions of this anti-cheat client.

Supported titles

There is no way to run the tool without tight integration with the game engine. For this reason there is a limited number of titles compatible with this application. They include America’s Army, Far Cry 3, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Medal of Honor and Red Orchestra. Moreover, several Battlefield games can utilize the program.

Popular cheating tools like Cheat Engine are detected automatically. Dishonest players are banned from the server.

GUID

To correctly identify cheaters this software uses Globally Unique Identifiers that are based on the specific CD keys used for purchasing the game. This method is much more precise and reliable than banning players by name or IP address. However, a freshly purchased new copy of the game can be used to bypass the protection.
