projectM is a program package for Windows that allows you to turn music tracks into fluid and dynamic three-dimensional animations. The performance is similar to the Milkdrop, an audio visualizer for a media player called Winamp.

Overview

When launching the application, you are greeted with a wide range of psychedelic 2D and 3D animated screensavers that react to the currently playing songs via Windows main audio device. One of the main advantages of using this utility is the fact that it can play any music or sounds from multiple sources. By default the visualizer boots up in a dedicated window. In order to enable the full screen mode for extending the animation display, you need to simultaneously press the Control and F keys.

Useful controls

It is necessary to note that while the software will cycle through visuals by itself, you are able to utilize the left and right key to navigate manually if you want to get to a particular pattern quicker. Pressing the downward key activates the experimental visualizations.

If certain animations are repeated too often, you may push the Enter key to bring up a random sequence. In case you have discovered your favorite preset, you can hit Space to lock it in place and prevent it from changing to the next one.
