Project Dogwaffle
Project Dogwaffle is a raster graphics editor program for Windows that offers some animation capabilities. It was originally developed by Dan Ritchie, and has both freeware and commercial versions. The free edition is fully functional, lacking only the advanced layer and scripting instruments.
Working principle
The application relies on the Lua programming language to help you create new imaging filters. It was initially developed for the GIMP, however it is also available in other digital painting utilities like Artweaver or Twistedbrush.
Functionality
You have the ability to create realistic paint effects similar to Corel Painter, as well as use standard tools and adjust alpha channels to achieve transparency effects. Other features include real-time filters that update as you tweak them, and a particle painting function for drawing trees, grass, or other objects.
Design animations
When it comes to animation, there is a dedicated timeline for applying different filters, a keyframer for moving images around, a batch processor and an exposure sheet. Additionally, you have the possibility to paint with animated brushes, retime sequences, export projects, and more.
