This obsolete application was designed to give users access to a digital library. It includes various dictionaries, encyclopedias, books and other text documents.
Microsoft Bookshelf
Microsoft Bookshelf is a Windows utility for reading and searching through different books, manuals and other texts. There is a large selection of reference titles such as Internet Directory and The Concise Columbia Encyclopedia. Please note that Microsoft Bookshelf is discontinued and no longer supported by the developer. The installation files are not available.
Included books
The original 1987 edition contains the following titles:
- World Almanac and Book of Facts;
- Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations;
- The Chicago Manual of Style (13th Edition);
- The Original Roget Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases;
- Spelling Verifier and Corrector;
- the U.S. ZIP Code Directory;
- and many other manuals, books and encyclopedias.
Multiple additional reference materials were added in the second and third versions of the library.
Viewing options
The integrated reader module allows you to access the text on a desktop monitor. Similar to Cool Reader, there are flexible font parameters such as the style, size and color. Moreover, it is possible to replace the default background image.
