MakeMKV is a Windows software for turning DVD movies into standard MKV video files. Users are able to preserve original chapter information and other metadata. The conversion process is fast and straightforward.

Import

After starting the program you can select the source optical drive from the drop-down menu. Device details such as the partition letter, manufacturer name, firmware revision, product model and serial number are displayed on the right side of the interface.

The next step is to insert an optical media with the movie into the correct drive. Current disk attributes like the type and label are shown alongside the drive information. Alternatively, it is possible to open an ISO image file that contains a movie in the DVD or Blu-ray format.

Conversion

Similar to WinX DVD Ripper Platinum, all detected video and audio tracks are displayed in the form of a list. Users are able to exclude individual streams from the resulting file to reduce its size. The default output directory is customizable as well.

The rest of the conversion process is done automatically. You can monitor the operation progress in the main window. A confirmation message will pop up when the task is complete.
