Macromedia Fontographer is a Windows software that lets users create and modify system fonts. There is support for all Unicode characters. It is possible to rotate, resize and crop the letters to better fit the design. Standard components for building accented and composite characters are included.

Editing process

After starting the utility you can begin a new blank project from the File menu. A table with all standard Unicode symbols will be generated. You are able to double-click on any character to begin designing the font.

There are tools for drawing lines, geometrical shapes and vector curves. Moreover, users can zoom in and out of the layout as well as measure separate letter elements. Virtual guidelines for easier character creation are available. Current cursor coordinates are displayed at the top of the window.

Finished fonts can be installed in the system and used in Microsoft Word or other applications.

Additional functionality

You are able to adjust kerning parameters. There is a slider for specifying the exact distance between two letters. Advanced spacing techniques and quality settings are provided. It is possible to automatically align all characters with the grid.

Please note that Macromedia Fontographer is a paid software. The free trial version does not allow users to save the project.
