L0phtCrack is a Windows application that lets users restore access to password-protected operating systems and programs. Additionally, it is possible to test the strength of any passwords with the help of various hacking techniques.

How it works

All keyphrases are stored in the form of encrypted hash files to protect your private data. This utility contains tools for cracking any password by analyzing these items. Several methods such as rainbow tables, brute-force and other techniques are utilized for this purpose.

Users can import hashes to begin the decryption process. There is support for Linux shadow items, PWDumps, SAM and SYSTEM files. Moreover, there is an option to load the hashes from the local Windows folder. Importing the data remotely over SSH protocol is possible as well.

After adding a new task to the queue you can click the Run Import Immediately button to detect all passwords included in the hash file.

It is important to note that L0phtCrack cannot be used for decrypting wireless network passwords. There are other programs like Aircrack with this functionality.

Audit

This tool includes a password testing feature. It is helpful for auditing existing keyphrases to make sure that they are strong enough and cannot be easily cracked. Users are able to utilize different testing methods like dictionaries and brute-force. Multiple accounts and hash files can be added to the audit queue.
