HYRes is a specialized program for Windows that can measure the resolution of digital cameras. It is automatic, highly repeatable, and does not depend on an image display device. At the same time, you can avoid problems associated with purely visual observations.

General notes

The measurement procedure is split into several steps. First of all, you need to record the chart image for evaluation using your camera. Next, you can trim the wedge. The last stage is dedicated to analyzing the partial area of a picture and calculating the numerical value.

The evaluation image is a resolution chart captured at an appropriate magnification via your digital camera. There is no requirement to adhere to the standards outlined in ISO12233. This means you can choose any desired magnification level.

Additional information

The software relies on two modes which use different measurement target charts. The default one picks out the six wedges in the central area of the sample image. CIPA approach aims at the four blocks in the middle part of the chart.

It is necessary to point out that the program is no longer supported by the development team. The installation files are not distributed on the Internet. If you would like to manipulate photographs taken directly from your digital camera, you may try an app called Adobe Camera Raw.
