HLToolz is a Windows software for personalizing gameplay features in Half-Life and Counter-Strike. There are options for adjusting texture attributes, weather effects and other visual elements.

How it works

After starting the program users can import the CFG file from the main game folder to begin editing it. There are options for toggling high quality models, filling texture gaps and adjusting reflections. Additionally, it is possible to enable the MMX technology, precaching functionality, dynamic lighting and detailed shadows. Audio settings for tuning the EAX, reverb and DirectSound attributes are provided as well.

You can improve gameplay performance by choosing the filtering method, texture size, rendering accuracy and image quality. Moreover, there are particle effect parameters and weather options. You are able to adjust the maximum amount of rubble, shells, enemy corpses and smoke puffs that can be displayed at one time.

Please note that HLToolz does not contain instruments for designing new maps. There are other utilities like GtkRadiant for this purpose.

Presets

Several predefined configurations for automatically changing all settings are available. Users can choose between the following presets:

High Quality;
Default;
High FPS;
Die Hard FPS.

The last two options are oriented toward professional gamers and allow you to achieve maximum performance while sacrificing picture quality.
