HEC RAS is a Windows application for analyzing hydraulic properties of rivers. It is possible to compute sediment bed attributes and evaluate water flow profiles. This program can process large networks of channels, dendritic systems or separate rivers.

How it works

After starting the utility you are able to import geographical data for constructing the river model. There are instruments for adding cross sections, bridges, pump stations and custom lateral structures. You can zoom in and out of the map and hide certain elements for better visibility. Both metric and Imperial measurement units are supported.

It is worth noting that HEC RAS does not contain tools for simulating water behavior in pipes. There are other apps like EPANET for this purpose.

Calculation tools

This program allows users to model and analyze steady water flow parameters. It is possible to upload a text file containing geometrical and fluid data for performing the evaluation. There are options for manually adjusting the height of the river banks. Users can click the Compute button to process the information and display analysis results.

Report generation

You are able to export all output values to a file. Checkboxes for including the terrain plan, water flow, geometry attributes and other data in the report are provided. You can configure summary parameters to add contraction and expansion coefficients.
