Gmax is a Windows software for designing complex three-dimensional models. It is a simplified version of the popular Autodesk 3ds Max graphics editor. There are instruments for applying textures to objects and configuring lighting parameters. Please note that Gmax is discontinued and no longer supported by the developer.

Interface

The main window contains four sections with different camera views. Moreover, there are buttons for generating geometric shapes like spheres, cones and cylinders. Every element can be resized and distorted to better fit the project. Animation playback controls are located at the bottom of the interface.

Material editor

Users are able to create custom textures and apply them to models. Advanced shading parameters are provided. It is possible to customize texture maps and design unique bitmap patterns. Finished materials can be saved to the main library for use in other projects.

Rendering

This program supports three types of lighting sources: omnidirectional, spotlight and direct rays. You are able to edit the hotspot and falloff values to achieve more natural results. There are tools for exporting finished models as BMP, GIF, JPG or TGA images.
