GeezIME is an input method editor program for Windows designed to help you work with the Geez writing system. The aforementioned technology is used by a variety of languages, such as Tigre, Tigrinya, Amharic and the Geez language itself. The operation is quite straightforward, since all you need to do is double-click the desktop shortcut icon, or open it from the Start menu.

Purpose

The main goal of this project is to provide a free, easy-to-use, linguistically supported, inclusive and standard compliant editor to the societies that utilize the Geez writing system. Even though further work is required to achieve the above mentioned objectives, significant results have already been attained. Thus, the developers have put together an enhanced release of the software solution to the general public.

Functionality

The application consists of a system wide Unicode compatible input method editor with voice output support. This means you can compose Geez script on an English keyboard using a predefined set of key combinations. To learn more, you may read the provided Help manual.

Another interesting feature of this utility is that it is able to spell the typed characters by hitting the Shift key once. This function is especially convenient for visually impaired users, allowing them to check what they have just typed.

In addition, there is a voice supported basic backward and forward text navigation capabilities. These controls are accessed by pressing the Left and Right arrow keys to move, and then hitting Shift to hear the voice. If you want to translate the website content into multiple languages, you may try another tool called Polylang.
