GEDCOM Viewer is a program for Windows that gives users the ability to view the content of Genealogical Data Communication files, namely items with the GED format. The application is easy to understand and it can be handled even by people with limited computer skills.

General notes

The graphical interface consists of a standard window with a well-organized layout. After you have opened a GEDCOM file, the utility creates a fast lookup table but does not make any changes to the content. The next step is to select a person from the database.

You can check out the genealogical tree along with the siblings, spouses and children. It is also possible to copy the document’s summary, details, notes or any other records to the Clipboard for future reference. If you want to create your own tree, you may use another tool called Personal Ancestral File.

Additional functions

What is more, you are able to utilize a search function to find and select a person from the tree. This is particularly useful when you are handling large amounts of data. You also have the option to rebuild the index for the current document.

Performance

The software features a good response time, comes with detailed user documentation and requires a very low quantity of system resources. We did not encounter any issues in our testing and the program did not freeze, lag or display error notifications.
