FREE ship is a Windows software that lets you create complex and detailed 3D ship models. It is possible to automatically add propellers based on the boat engine. You can calculate all hydrodynamic characteristics of the model.

Design process

The main window consists of four panels with various views of the 3D object. Users are able to easily insert new points, edges and curves into the project. This program supports models with multiple layers that can be edited separately.

There are options for toggling the visibility of edges, grids, stations, buttocks, waterlines, hydrostatic features and other elements. This functionality is helpful for working with large ships that have several decks.

It is possible to distort the model by scaling, rotating and mirroring it. An advanced hull form transformation tool is available as well. It provides important data about the water displacement, block coefficient and longitudinal center of gravity.

The results can be exported in several common formats for further editing in another 3D graphics editor like Blender.

Additional instruments

You can test the finished model for accidental leak points. Their coordinates will be shown in a pop up window when the evaluation is complete.

There is a wizard tool for automatically adding keel and rudder to the ship. A library of premade templates is provided. Users are able to adjust the amount of vertical and horizontal points as well as the length of certain details.
