Exact Audio Copy is a Windows software for grabbing audio tracks from CDs and DVDs. It is possible to automatically convert copied songs to the MP3 or WAV file format for playing in Winamp or another similar application.

Grabbing process

After starting the utility users are prompted to select the correct optical drive from the drop-down menu. All detected songs are displayed in the main window. The playlist can be sorted by track number, title, artist, composer, length, size and other attributes.

You can edit ID3 metadata for every individual audio file. Moreover, it is possible to connect to the online database and fill all information automatically.

The last step is to select the resulting format. This application supports the MP3 and WAV containers. Compression parameters like the sample rate and frequency range are adjustable.

Settings

There are flexible audio normalization options. Users are able to automatically delete leading and trailing silent blocks. Checkboxes for skipping track extraction in case of reading errors or after a predefined period of time are included as well.

The file naming scheme is highly customizable. You can view the list of standard variables in the corresponding tab of the EAC Options menu. There are instruments for replacing non-standard characters in filenames to prevent compatibility issues on hardware players.
