This specialized software contains a database of error codes for diagnosing automobile electronic modules. It is intended to be used by car technicians.
DTC Library
DTC Library is a small Windows utility for identifying Diagnostic Trouble Codes in the vehicles made by several popular car manufacturers.
Supported hardware
This app lets users interpret error messages displayed by the special Code Reader device. It is possible to use several models from Geniscan and MaxScan to get the necessary information from the car computer. A detailed instruction guide for connecting the reader to the On-Board Diagnostics module is provided with the program.
The database contains codes for the vehicles made by Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Volkswagen, Kia, Mitsubishi, Mercedes and several other car companies. The generic OBD II values are included as well.
You can select the manufacturer and enter the code to decrypt it. The definition will be immediately displayed in the main window.
There are programs like VAG K Can Commander to help users further inspect car computers.
Code structure
Every error message contains 5 characters – one letter followed by four numbers. The first symbol identifies which control system sent the code:
- B – body;
- C – chassis;
- P – powertrain;
- and U – network.
The other four characters provide additional information about the origin point of the error as well as the operating conditions that caused it.
Several subsystems can be diagnosed such as Fuel Metering, Ignition System, Auxiliary Emission Controls and Computer Output Circuits.
