DBAN is a Windows program that enables you to boot into a special environment in which you can erase the data on all the volumes of a hard disk. It is a convenient solution for recycling your computer because the deleted personal information cannot be recovered through traditional means like FinalRecovery. With this utility, you can also run data wiping algorithms on multiple storage drives at the same time.

Functionality

The software allows you to create a bootable USB drive that contains a special environment with professional tools for cleaning the hard disks available in the system. It deleted all the data without confirmation, regardless of its location by running special algorithms like PRNG Stream, Quick Erase or Gutmann. The latter has 35 passes and requires the most time for completing the job.

Drawbacks

This application may not be successful in wiping the data on all models of hard disks. Nevertheless, in most cases it runs properly once it detects the hardware. Although this package comes with drivers for scanning most devices, the utility cannot disassemble RAID volumes automatically. Please note, the program needs to run the wiping session several times and this might require more time, extending the operation to more than two hours.
