Cognatio is a Windows software for creating and editing genealogical trees. You can add new individuals, families and other elements to the project. Alternatively, there is an option to import data from various file formats, including GEDCOM, XML, CSV and Excel. Please note that the free version of Cognatio has limited capabilities.

Data entry

Users are able to specify the name, gender, dates of birth and death, personal details and other information for every person in the tree. It is possible to link people together, merge duplicate records, split families and perform other similar tasks.

Visualization

You can present genealogical data in various ways. There are multiple family tree formats like pedigree, descendants list, hourglass, fan chart or timeline. Several types of spreadsheets and reports are available as well. Information can be exported to PDF, HTML, RTF, SVG, PNG or JPEG files.

Analysis

Tools for searching through records to find family connections are provided. Users are able to filter the results by multiple attributes to narrow down the list. The Statistics panel displays the overall number of individuals, families, sources, events, places, media files, notes and other elements in the project.
