Cobian Backup is a Windows utility that lets you back up personal documents, photos, video clips and other files. Similar to Veeam Endpoint Backup, there are tools for automating the archiving process and configuring advanced operation settings. Copies can be transferred to a remote FTP server or saved on an external storage device.

Usage instructions

The first step after starting the program is to create a new task and specify main backup parameters. Users can select source files, folders or logical partitions and set a target directory. It is possible to save the backup on an external server, CD, DVD, USB storage device or another hard drive.

Supported copying methods include full, differential and additional. The last two options are intended for saving only files that were modified since the last backup.

Advanced capabilities

You are able to schedule regular backup operations at predefined intervals. Moreover, there is an option to prioritize specific tasks over others. The shadow mode allows you to access source data during the backup process.

This application provides tools for compressing resulting archives to save the disk space. An option to encrypt the backup with a personal password for preventing unauthorized access is provided as well.
