BuildCraft is a modification for Minecraft that integrates various automation technologies into the game. Generally speaking, it extends the core gameplay by adding a system of powered machines and instruments. Thus, you are able to automate certain tasks, and transport items, liquids, and even energy.

Pipes and energy

The biggest changes to the game come in the form of pipes and Minecraft joules, abbreviated as MJ. The first are used to move blocks, fluids, and mechanical energy between containers and machines. There are different kinds of pipes, built with materials like wood, stone, iron, gold, diamond, emerald, and obsidian. It is also possible to combine pipes with sealant to make them transport liquids or with redstone to conduct mechanical energy. MJ is used to power BuildCraft-compatible machines.

Robust engines

Another addition is the presence of craftable engines capable of powering the machines, and pulling items out of inventories. Engines are powered by redstone, and slowly speed up as the heat increases. This means if one gets too hot it will explode. However, it will not blow up if it is connected to anything that accepts energy like a wooden pipe. Alternatively, you may try another mod called Extra Utilities.
