Boxcryptor is a Windows utility for protecting confidential documents, important photos and other personal data. It allows you to encrypt files before sharing them via Dropbox or another similar cloud storage platform. There is support for integration with Microsoft Office products, Adobe Acrobat Reader, VLC Media Player and many other third-party applications.

Encryption process

The program can be accessed via the standard Explorer context menu. Users are able to select all required files and quickly encrypt them. It is possible to automatically generate URLs for sharing data with other people. There are tools for managing protected folders by renaming, moving or erasing them.

Please note that the free version of Boxcryptor contains limited functionality.

Performance and security

Included algorithms handle the encryption and decryption on-the-fly, without putting a strain on the system. No one except you and people who have the link can access the information.

In the standard operation mode only the file contents are protected. Alternatively, the full encryption option offers users a more comprehensive security solution by hiding the original name and other metadata.
